This weekend may have witnessed a rare scenario of two siblings clashing at the box office. However, with some last moment decision coming in, the clash has finally been averted.
We are talking about CHAMKU and HIJACK which star Bobby Deol and Esha Deol respectively. Both the films have been ready for last few months but have been searching for the best possible week for their arrival at the silver screen. The two films had quite some push and pull for the best screen availability in the weeks gone by and had eventually penciled in 29th August as the D-day for arrival. This would have led to a unique clash for both the films which belong to action genre. However, with some last minute calculations coming into account, HIJACK has been pushed further by a week and would instead arrive on 5th September.
Incidentally for Bobby it would be a release after almost a year since his last, NANHE JAISALMER, arrived in September 2007. This was the year which saw his maximum number of releases that also included NAQAAB, APNE, JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM and SHAKALAKA BOOM BOOM. On the other hand Esha Deol too had a busy 2007 with films like JUST MARRIED, CASH and DARLING. However, 2008 has been comparatively 'thanda' for her with ONE TWO THREE being her sole release as the female lead.
Coming back to CHAMKU and HIJACK, the promotion of the two films sees quite some diverse involvement from the respective directors. In case of CHAMKU, its director Kabeer Kaushik has taken a backseat. Apparently he is busy shooting for his next with Arshad Warsi and hasn't been around to be a part of the promotion. Due to this, producer Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol have taken it upon them to take over the reigns when it comes to making the film reach out to the audience.
On the other hand Kunal Shivdasani, director of HIJACK, has been quite vocal about his film which promises to be set in DIE HARD mode. Aggressively promoting the film across the country and creating awareness about this film which boasts of some slick never seen before action sequences, Kunal is making sure that his first ever attempt as a film director does manage to create enough excitement amongst the audience to walk into the theaters.
