Why the cast of MAHARATHI slashed their prices?

So excited was the star cast of MAHARATHI about the film's script that they didn't blink an eyelid before signing on the dotted line to be a part of the project. Not just that, they even slashed their price and worked at less than their market rate for this film which Paresh Rawal has put together. Apart from Paresh Rawal who plays an integral part of the film, MAHARATHI stars stalwarts like Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri and Boman Irani along with Neha Dhupia and Tara Sharma.
"It wouldn't have been possible for the film to have been made if all of them would have worked at their market price. But I am glad that they came forward with an out and out support for the project. By their own will, they reduced their price but made sure that MAHARATHI takes the kind of shape it is in today", says Paresh Rawal who has directed the play by the same name in Gujarati for years.
Wasn't it difficult to get such an enviable line up of actors on one single platform? How did each of them consent to be a part of this film?
"First and foremost actors must love the subject to agree to be a part of it. In case of MAHARATHI, that was pretty much the case. Secondly, their own part should be interesting enough. Thirdly, they should have faith in the coordinator i.e. the person who brings them altogether. In case of MAHARATHI, I am that coordinator", details Paresh Rawal about the factors that made possible for all actors to come together in MAHARATHI.
"Many people in the industry have seen the play and believed that it could be turned into a good film. The word of mouth has been fantabulous even two decades after the play was launched. I guess the reactions would be the same once the film arrives in theaters", concludes Paresh Rawal.
