Though it is generally being said that Subhash Ghai's upcoming directorial venture, BLACK & WHITE, is a frame to frame copy of Harrison Ford's THE DEVIL'S OWN (1997), but that is far from the truth. Maybe the accusations emanate from the fact both the movies have a similar storyline, that of a terrorist taking up refuge at a professor / cop's residence. But the similarity ends there.
While Ford played a police officer, Anil essays the role of a professor of Urdu at one of Delhi's colleges. The bad man in the Hollywood venture was played by Brad Pitt, a superstar, while BLACK & WHITE has a newcomer, Anurag Singh, playing a terrorist. In fact, barring the basic surmise, the two movies are as different as chalk and cheese, including the backdrop, which is Afghanistan in the case of Ghai's film. And if our memory serves us right, the Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar and Sharmila Tagore starrer, FARAAR, had almost a similar plot. So will Ghai's detractors accept that the Hollywood makers copied from Bachchan's movie, which released in 1975? We are awaiting the response!
