Ahsaas Channa has been making headlines ever since news broke that she is in fact a girl and not a boy. From the time since she was first seen on the big screen in VAASTU SHASTRA (way back in 2004), she has been passed off as a boy. The trend continued with KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA, ARYAN - UNBREAKABLE, MY FRIEND GANESHA and numerous commercials where Ahsaas was seen in a boy's role.

However, there was quite some furor a few months back when it was 'discovered' that producers were not kept in loop about her gender. While widespread debates followed about exploitation of child artists by their own parents as well as certain filmmakers, Ram Gopal Varma (who had in fact produced VAASTU SHASTRA) went ahead and roped her in for his next horror flick PHOONK.

The film is a mini-history in the making for Ahsaas since for the first time ever she would be enacting the role of a girl on the big screen. Though she has been seen as a girl (called Ganga) in the TV serial KASAM SE, PHOONK would be her first when it comes to movies.

So gone are those shirts and trousers/jeans and in come the skirts and a different hairstyle for this bubbly girl who is all set to don a different hat altogether in her new innings!

Playing the role of Raksha in this film which tells a 'black magic story', Ahsaas plays the daughter of Sudeep (popular Kannada star who makes his Hindi film debut) and Amruta Khanvilkar (who had made heads turn in MUMBAI SALSA and was last seen in Ramu's CONTRACT).

Produced by Azam Khan and Parvez Damania of One More Thought Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., PHOONK is all set for a 22nd August release.
