The comeback of sorts for the former showman, Subhash Ghai, commences with today's 'different' release, BLACK & WHITE. There are a few secrets about the movie that are not so well known, but as always we will share it with you! .
Initially, BLACK & WHITE was planned as a mega budget, big star cast venture. The script was written in about two months and so impressed was Subhash Ghai with it that he decided to direct it himself, though YUVRAAJ was supposed to be his actual comeback venture. BLACK & WHITE was then scaled down, with Anil Kapoor as the only major star and the budget became a reasonable 7-8 crores.
A major chunk of the film (almost ninty percent) has been shot in old Delhi. Ghai was in Delhi seven times last year for location hunting and visited various places like Chandni Chowk, Ballimaran, Cycle Market and Jama Masjid.
Interestingly, some of the most important portions of the movie are shot at a place called Gali Zainiyan. The camera for the same was placed on top of Hotel Tara Place, so that the full ambience of Jama Masjid and the Red Fort could be captured. The mentioned shots were canned early in the morning and featured newcomer, Anurag Sinha and Aditi Sharma. As Anurag was not a known face, he would stroll down Chandni Chowk after the shoot, unrecognized. But Anil, when he did the same (in a 'burqa'!) was caught, but let off after the situation became clear.
With such detailing, passion and groundwork, we hope that Ghai and his labour of love will be appreciated. EROS International is releasing BLACK & WHITE, based on the heinous Delhi blasts, with around 50 odd prints in Delhi-UP.
