In the times when a single hit film leads an actor to sign multiple films in a row, it comes as quite a surprise to see a leading lady taking a long sabbatical in spite of two back-to-back successful films to her credit.
We are talking about cute looking Genelia D'Souza who not just gave a good account of herself with her first two films itself but also tasted box office success. While TUJHE MERI KASAM (2003) was an average runner, MASTI (2004) was a big hit. In both the films she was paired opposite Riteish Deshmukh. However, rather than jumping on to the dozens of offers which started coming her way, Genelia opted to wait for the best and kept herself busy with her films down South.
In the meantime her fans kept waiting for her to come back on the Hindi film arena as well. Well, the wait is over now as Genelia would be seen in not just one but two back-to-back films. These are MERE BAAP PEHLE AAP and JAANE TU YA JAANE NA which would be releasing in the months of June and July respectively.
MERE BAAP PEHLE AAP is a family comedy entertainer which has Akshaye Khanna and Paresh Rawal as the two prime protagonists with Genelia playing Akshaye's love interest. Directed by Priyadarshan, MERE BAAP PEHLE AAP is expected to follow the comic genre which the film maker has patented over the years.
On the other hand JAANE TU YA JAANE NA is a big film for Genelia since she plays the solo female lead in this young romantic musical. The film is special since not just is she paired with debutant Imraan Khan, she also gets an opportunity to be a part of an Aamir Khan production. Music by A R Rahman only adds on to the quality quotient of the film.
Apart from MERE BAAP PEHLE AAP and JAANET TU YA JAANE NA which would be releasing back-to-back with just a month's gap, Genelia has also been signed for a film directed by Anees Bazmee which stars Harman Baweja in the lead role. A Sanjay Kapoor production, this yet untitled film also features Nana Patekar in a major role.
With three big projects up her kitty, Genelia is indeed looking at making a worthy comeback to the Bollywood scene!
