The only major release of the coming Friday is the Bhatt camp venture, JANNAT. The Kunal Deshmukh directed Emraan Hashmi and Sonal Chauhan starrer is sure to have a decent start at the ticket window. And that because of some brilliant publicity, super music and the craze of the nation, cricket as its theme, in the midst of the Indian Premier League (IPL) frenzy!

As we had predicted in our last column, Ravi Chopra's Vivek Sharma directed BHOOTHNATH got a reasonable start, based on interesting promos and excellent release timing for the target audience, the kids. What is important to note here is that despite the fact that the first day had a so-so start in Bombay and a dull one at many other places, the film picked up as the weekend progressed. However, the Amitabh, Juhi, Aman and SRK (special appearance) starrer has failed to impress in the Overseas with an ordinary gross of $330,246 from the US and a poor $127,693 from UK.

MR. WHITE MR. BLACK has predictably failed to make an impact. The film managed poor collections in its first week, with 48 lakhs from Bombay, 17.15 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.35 lakhs from Patan, 1.05 lakhs from Palanpur, 2.50 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.75 lakhs from Jamnagar, 2.65 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 1.05 lakhs from Gandhidham, 2.35 lakhs from Pune, 17.30 lakhs from Delhi, 3.30 lakhs from Noida, 2.25 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.20 lakhs from Kanpur, 4.25 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.65 lakhs from Agra, 3.05 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.15 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.05 lakhs from Guwahati, 4 lakhs (approx) from Nagpur, 2.40 lakhs from Indore, 3.70 lakhs from Jaipur, 9.70 lakhs from Hyderabad and I lakh from Mangalore . The Arshad Warsi , Suneil Shetty and Sandhya Mridul starrer manages a poor 2.75 crores in its opening week from India. Needless to add that the much delayed film is a failure, both in India and Overseas. The Deepak Shivdasani directed MR. WHITE MR. BLACK has been outrightly rejected in the UK with a poor gross of just $51,321.

ANAMIKA has failed miserably. Its best collections of around 1.70 lakhs each come from Bombay and Delhi city and the rest of India shows numbers that are way less than even a lakh! The film's extremely poor collections confirm its disaster status.

PRANALI – THE TRADITION is also a huge debacle, though it has fared somewhat better than ANAMIKA in Bombay, collecting 4.40 lakhs but is a washout at the other centres.

All hopes of Yash Raj Films' Vijay Krishna Acharya directed multi-starrer, TASHAN, getting the benefit of a multiplex release (though a week late) came crashing down, just like the collections of the Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer! The film collected 65 lakhs from Bombay, 32 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.65 lakhs from Himmatnagar, 6.70 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.15 lakhs (gross) from Bhavnagar, 2.20 lakhs from Jamnagar, 1.20 lakhs from Gandhidham, 3.20 lakhs from Pune, 1.50 lakhs from Solapur, 3.70 lakhs from Nasik, 67 lakhs from Delhi city, 10.40 lakhs from Noida, 7.20 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3 lakhs from Kanpur, 13 lakhs from Lucknow, 3.10 lakhs from Agra, 1.70 lakhs from Bareilly, 2.75 lakhs from Aligarh, 1.30 lakhs from Muzaffarnagar, 13.35 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.65 lakhs from Faridabad, 1 lakh from Panipat, 3.60 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.30 lakhs from Jabalpur, 1.40 lakhs from Amravati, 1.10 lakhs from Akola, 1.35 lakhs from Raipur, 5.75 lakhs from Indore, 1.25 lakhs from Sehore, 15.20 lakhs from Jaipur, 1 lakh each from Bikaner and Chandrapur, 1.45 lakhs from Mangalore, 2.60 lakhs from Aurangabad and 14.20 lakhs from Hyderabad. Adding another 7 crores, TASHAN has netted a poor (in the context of the lavishly mounted project) 25.50 crores in two weeks from India. The film is now an unquestionable flop for YRF, their second big project of recent times after JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM. TASHAN has also been rejected in the Overseas with poor grosses of $457,380 from the US and $658,584 from UK.

Meanwhile Ajay Devgan's U ME AUR HUM, could not capitalize on the lack of opposition and fell heavily in its fourth week. Checking out the numbers, U ME AUR HUM collected 16.70 lakhs from Bombay, 6.10 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 8.40 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh from Noida, 1.40 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.30 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.60 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Nagpur and 1.15 lakhs from Indore. The film adds another 70- 75 lakhs and has netted nearly 23 crores in four weeks from India. The Ajay-Kajol starrer though, remains in the average to below average category. U ME AUR HUM is already a good success in the Overseas.

Coming to KHUDA KAY LIYE, the film continues its remarkably rock steady run with a limited number of prints. The film collected 9 lakhs from Bombay, 1.35 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3.10 lakhs from Delhi and 1.15 lakhs from Noida. Adding another 25 lakhs KHUDA KAY LIYE has netted an impressive 2.50-2.55 crores in five weeks from India. The Shoaib Mansoor directed film now moves towards the above average status from India.

Once again our last entry of the week is Abbas-Mustan's RACE, which is now doing the last few laps! The movie collected 2.50 lakhs from Bombay, 4.35 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3.30 lakhs from Delhi and 1.30 lakhs from Lucknow. Running at not so many screens, RACE manages another 30 lakhs for a total of around 62.70 crores (net) in seven weeks from India. The Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy starrer RACE is a hit plus from India. RACE is also a good hit in the Overseas circuit.
