ROHIT SHETTY | Rohit Shetty has made a startling revelation. Even though GOLMAAL RETURNS has been a huge money spinner, the young film maker reveals that when he was set out to make the first of the series, GOLMAAL, 3 years back, he was very worried. He had just made ZAMEEN and when the world advised him to stick to the action genre (since he had tasted success with his very first film), he turned to slapstick. His changing gears was not taken too kindly and worse, many in the industry laughed at his efforts of making a comedy about four guys.
"I was indeed quite scared", admits Rohit, "People were not prepared about this comedy film called GOLMAAL and used to ask 'Who is this director'? When they realized that Rohit is the same guy who was behind ZAMEEN, they used to make fun. They were not so discreet in declaring that this guy, who is mainly an action film director, would ever be able to make a full on laughaton like GOLMAAL."
He smiles when he thinks about the past.
"GOLMAAL series was never meant to be a dialogue oriented comedy, as can be seen in GOLMAAL RETURNS too. It is slapstick with factors like snake fights and people flying all over. The entire spoof theme too is experimental. However, though I was worried about GOLMAAL or for that matter even SUNDAY, I wasn't as much about GOLMAAL RETURNS. I knew it would take a flying start but the mega opening it has taken has pleasantly surprised all of us associated with the movie", concludes Rohit.
