Music of DOSTANA is topping the charts for weeks at stretch now and the successful box office opening of the film has ensured that weekend sales of the soundtrack have been bountiful as well.

"Shekhar and I were always confident about the fact that DOSTANA would work. There were murmurs in the early days of the album's release that it was a little unconventional and also different from the kind of music that one associates with Dharma Productions. Well, our logic is that if something is new, fresh and different, it will definitely work", says Vishal Dadlani who also contributed with lyrics and vocals in this Tarun Mansukhani directed film.

Any examples that he wishes to state?

"Remember the rage that was created when Himesh made his debut as a singer two years back? It was new and was lapped up in such a big way. It was phenomenal. Also look at the sound which was introduced by all these new guys from Pakistan. It created a genre of its own and made an impact with the music followers. However, the biggest example of the current times is A. R. Rahman. He always gets something new and different and that's the very reason why he has such a following amongst the lovers of quality music", Vishal elaborates.

How about their own music from DOSTANA?

"'Desi Girl', 'Maa Ka Laadla', 'Shut Up and Bounce' and 'Jaane Kyun' are already successful which is not bad at all for an album with six songs. Now with the release of the film, I am told that 'Kuch Kum' and 'Khabar Nahi', the softer and slower numbers from the album, are enjoying recollection value from the audience too. It is of course a happy scenario for both the film and the music", replies Vishal with a smile.
