MADHUR BHANDARKAR | FASHION has turned out to be a box office success, hence ensuring that Madhur Bhandarkar continues with his winning streak. However, one can't help but ask the National Award winning film maker that with all the critical and commercial success coming his way, does he actually feel that he has managed to achieve everything that he wanted with the film?
"From a vision point of view, my answer is Yes", says Madhur after getting into a thoughtful mode, "Though from the narrative perspective, I feel that I could have done something more. Hamesha lagta hai ki thoda aur achcha kar sakta tha."
Does he wish to state an example?
"Of course! Like the two photographers that I used in one of the fashion events at the beginning of the film. These were meant to be the sutradhars of the film, just like R.K. Laxman. I feel that I could have featured more of them but the length of the film was increasing and I had to cut their part. In the script, I had these scenes and dialogues detailed out where these photographers commented on the fashion industry", details Madhur.
Seemed like length was the major deterrent and he had to eventually cut some of the scenes which were really close to his heart?
"That's right. I hadn't shot for these scenes though and later completely dropped them since the film risked getting digressed from its theme. Same was the case with the gay kissing shot that I had to eliminate it. Well, I had to anyways cut my film by an hour to bring it to its current length; I couldn't help it", concludes Madhur.
