Neetu Singh: I was conscious while facing the camera

NEETU SINGH

NEETU SINGH

She may have debuted (albeit as a child actor) more than 40 years back in DUS LAKH [1966] and acted in more than 50 films in next 15 odd years. Still, when she faced the camera again this year for DO DOON CHAAR, she couldn't escape being nervous.

''Yes, I was indeed nervous when I was called for my first shot in the film'', says Neetu Singh who is shooting for DO DOONI CHAAR with hubby Rishi Kapoor [who plays her on screen husband as well in the film], ''I was facing camera after more than 25 years and was conscious on the sets.''

As expected, the scene went on well though as she was quite comfortable once she had to give her take.

''I was wondering though how I would be able to memorize my dialogues and deliver them well. It was bound to happen though and I settled down after my initial nervous moments'', says Neetu Singh who decided to make a comeback on the big screen after much persuasion.

''Except for an odd still-shoot here and there, I hadn't done much for the camera over the years. Yes, there were offers to act all this while but I wasn't too keen. I was happy looking at my family and home'', says the lady who still possesses a graceful demeanor to herself.

There are also speculations that she would be seen in Imtiaz Ali's LOVE AAJ KAL. However, if at all it is true, the story has been kept under the wraps.

Meanwhile, what was the trigger point for her comeback to the big screen?

Says Neetu Singh, ''My kids are doing good now and are settling down in life. Riddhima got married while Ranbir too is doing well for himself. He is going in the right direction. There are good roles being written today and this is when I decided to give acting another shot.''

However, instead of making a quintessential big-bang comeback, she decided to give nod to a relatively smaller film titled DO DOONI CHAAR where she is required to play a middle class Punjabi housewife from Lajpat Nagar, Delhi.

''DO DOONI CHAAR is quite interesting. It is a meaningful light hearted entertainer. Rishiji plays a Mathematics teacher while I play his wife and a mother of two grown up kids. My clothes too have been designed on the lines of those that are typically work by women in this part of the city'', she smiles.

Well, audience would certainly be interested in the new persona of Neetu Singh whose last big release was opposite Amitabh Bachchan in YARAANA [1981]. Directed by Habib Faisal (who makes his debut with the film), DO DOONI CHAAR would be releasing towards the latter half of 2009.
