Amitabh Bachchan felt ALADIN was childish

Even though Sujoy Ghosh managed a casting coup in ALADIN by having Amitabh Bachchan on board in the role of Genie - The Genius, it wasn't a cakewalk for him. In the early days of scripting, Amitabh Bachchan had expressed his unhappiness with what was presented to him and even went to the extent of calling ALADIN a childish affair.
Informs Sujoy Ghosh, ''I still remember the day when I narrated my initial draft of ALADIN to Sir (Amitabh Bachchan) in the make up room of YRF Studios. He had just returned from a long Reid and Taylor shoot and though there was no reaction on his face while I was narrating the script, I knew for sure that he was listening to every word.''
The bombshell was to arrive a few moments later once Sujoy stopped talking. Amitabh Bachchan thought for a while and broke his silence with a statement - 'Errr...Sujoy it sounds great and has lots of new stuff. But what's the story? I am not getting a feel for the story and it sounds very childish.'

Even though Sujoy tried to reason and Amitabh Bachchan gave him a patient listening, the director knew instinctively that he hadn't liked the script. It was a period of going back to the script and on re-reading it; Sujoy realized that Amitabh Bachchan was actually quite correct in his assessment of the script.
''The script had lots of gimmicks but there was no soul''. So, the next step for Sujoy was to go back to the drawing board and write such a script that would please Amitabh Bachchan. The kind which was a big, happy movie.
''And the result is ALADIN in its current shape and format'', exclaims Sujoy Ghosh, ''I am glad I listened to Sir's advise and made something which makes perfect sense now.''
