LOVE AAJ KAL is now officially the biggest first week opener of all times with EROS INTERNATIONAL declaring 45 crores net for the first week. This means that in just 7 days, the film has earned much more than the lifetime worldwide total of both JAB WE MET and SOCHA NA THA combined together. The film is still counting money and is all set to be a huge money spinner for film maker Imtiaz Ali who clearly finds himself in the big league of Top-10 film makers in the country today.
''Well, one has to look at the scale and budget of the films as well'', says Imtiaz in a modest tone, ''Of course it's a great feeling to know that your film has created records in the country. However, in the current market scenario, the release strategy and pitching amongst the audience makes a big difference too. The entire release was designed in such a way that there is big moolah in the first few days itself.''
CHECK OUT: ROCKSTAR continues to be on hold
Comparing it with his earlier release, Imtiaz gets nostalgic about JAB WE MET. He says, ''JAB WE MET was released on a much smaller scale and it was coming after my SOCHA NA THA. People didn't have the kind of expectations while watching the film as they had during LOVE AAJ KAL. JAB WE MET had taken its own time to find its place. The film had started growing amongst the audience due to very good word of mouth but just a fortnight later, OM SHANTI OM released. We had to struggle hard to get us back in the reckoning once the euphoria around OM SHANTI OM settled down. Thankfully, the film stood on it's own after that. People loved JAB WE MET over a period of time and made it the film that it is considered today.''
Well, it is clear that audiences loved LOVE AAJ KAL as well, something which is pretty much on display with the monumental collections. Now it has to be seen whether LOVE AAJ KAL too remains in the audiences heart for as long as JAB WE MET has managed to stay during last two years.
