When director Puneet Sira made his directorial debut with I - PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN (2004), one would have thought that his career had finished. This Sohail Khan Production hadn't worked at the box office and not many were willing to give him a second chance. While he did go on to make JAI VEERU in the interim, it was Sohail Khan again who continued to have faith in him and roped him in for his yet another home production KISAAN.
Appears like the Khan family has shown good trust in Puneet Sira's capabilities, considering the fact that Arbaaz was also seen as an actor in JAI VEERU.

Says Arbaaz, "You have to back a person and his talent while respecting his sensibilities without always looking at the box office results of his last film. We are not those people who are driven only by the success factor. We back something that shows promise. A clear example in this case is that of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. After he made KHAMOSHI, no one would have worked with him. What if Salman wouldn't have continued to show faith in him? He did support him and the result was HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM."
What also worked in the favour of Puneet Sira being roped in for KISAAN was his Sikh background.
"Puneet is a Sardar and he understands the backdrop of the movie very well. He comes with the knowledge and understanding that is much required for the milieu of the film", says Arbaaz, "KISAAN is a family drama with the backdrop of a 'kisaan' household in Punjab. We were sure that Puneet would be able to deliver goods."
Starring Jackie Shroff, Sohail Khan, Dia Mirza, Nauheed Cyrusi and Dalip Tahil in principal roles, KISAAN releases this Friday.
