Piyush Jha(director): SIKANDAR is a suspense thriller

| 5 years back director Piyush Jha had made a Bollywood satire called KING OF BOLLYWOOD. Staring Om Puri and British model Sophie Dahl in lead roles, the film had traveled widely across the festival circuit.
An ad film maker turned director, Piyush's zeal for experimentation had earlier led him to venture into films and he made his very first film CHALO AMERICA (1999) which was showcased in the 'Indian Panorama' at the International Film Festival of India and many other international film festivals. Circa 2009, Piyush is going all commercial-n-Bollywood way with his new suspense thriller SIKANDAR which has terrorism as its backdrop.
Considering the fact that his last venture KING OF BOLLYWOOD had done reasonably well at the silver screen, what took him such a long time to come back on the big screen?

''I am a filmmaker who wanted to work on ideas and thoughts that grabs me from what's happening in the society at that point of time. So I wanted to evaluate that side of my craftsmanship to understand what kind of films I want to make'', says Piyush Jha who is looking forward to the film that has been extensively shot in Kashmir.
''I also wanted to travel (that I have never done before), meet new people and explore new cultures. All of this opens up your horizons to be a better storyteller. I did almost about six months of research on my subject and it took me quite some time to sell SIKANDAR as people liked the idea but were not ready to take a risk of making a film like this'', divulges Piyush.
He is happy with the final results though since he had made a conscious decision to pitch SIKANDAR as a commercial film that would attract masses as well as classes.
Piyush says, ''With SIKANDAR, I want to attract the masses and reach out to them. My cinema is relevant but it's not a documentary or a boring depiction of Kashmir. Rather it's an interesting suspense thriller''.
