It isn't just sports based films like IQBAL, CHAK DE INDIA, DHAN DHANA DHAN GOAL, and most recently VICTORY where the leading protagonists were required to be trained in cricket, hockey and football in order to gain familiarity with the sport before the director started calling the shots.
Even in a film like SIKANDAR, which has an undercurrent of terrorism to it, its central protagonist Parzan had to become well versed with the nitty-gritty of football. Reason? He plays a football expert in the film and director Piyush Jha was convinced that Parzan had to undergo rigorous football training before being ready to face the camera.
Confirms Piyush Jha who has earlier directed comedies like KING OF BOLLYWOOD and CHALO AMERICA, ''We had pre-shoot workshops to prepare the actors for their roles and one of such workshops included Parzan to go through a three months training in football as he plays a football expert in the film. He also went under a rigorous training for action as he had never done it before.''
CHECK OUT: Sudhir Mishra's SIKANDAR to thrill on 27th March
It wasn't just Parzaan Dastur (who is known most for his portrayal of the young Sikh boy in Karan Johar's KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI) who had to go through the drill. Even Ayesha Kapur (the young girl from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's BLACK) was made to work on her Hindi as she was not very well versed with it.
''Moreover, we also had acting workshops and I also kept speaking to my two most important cast members over the period of time about their characters. I also made them read a lot about Kashmir to get them used to the lifestyle'', details Piyush.
Also starring R. Madhavan, Sanjay Suri and Arunoday Singh in principal roles, SIKANDAR is co-produced by Sudhir Mishra and is eying 27th March release.
