A little more than a year after the release of NO SMOKING, Anurag Kashap is back. His first ever musical (if one discounts PAANCH which was about a rock band but hasn't been released yet), DEV D also sees drugs and sex playing an important part in the storyline. Seems like it's going to be one violent mix of things in DEV D, isn't it?

"If you are talking about physical violence in DEV D then well, let me set the records straight that there is no such depiction of violence on screen", says Anurag Kashyap who did see quite some critical acclaim coming his way after the release of BLACK FRIDAY last year, "But yes, there is certainly an emotional violence in the characters of DEV D.

CHECK OUT: DEV D Music Review

Please elaborate.

"Yes, there is angst in the characters but violence here is only in their minds rather than acts. As I said, there is an emotional violence that the characters keep within, something that is visible on their faces or the things they say. Also, this violence is expressed in the film's music that has been brilliantly composed by Amit Trivedi. For example, if you hear the 'rock version' of 'Emotional Atyachaar', it depicts a full-on emotional outburst. But no, none of my actors here are resorting to any violent acts.

Abhay Deol, the central protagonist of DEV D adds, "'Devdas' is a character that tends to get violent, so yes there is bound to be violence and abuse in the story. But no, none of it is visually explicit".
