Madhavan goes back to college

Madhavan gets younger in his next Bollywood flick, THREE IDIOTS, for which he's currently shooting at IIM-B. In fact, he, Aamir Khan and Sharman Joshi are all staying on campus. ''It was Aamir's idea that we all stay in the hostel to reduce travel time,'' says Madhavan, who's loving the stint. ''Aamir is a fantastic athlete and we are all so preoccupied with shooting and chess and badminton. I was so excited that I even hurt my knee playing volleyball with the students,'' he says. It's not just sport that Maddy is enjoying with Aamir; they're talking films too. ''His recent film has broken all records. I'm trying to learn from Aamir,'' says Maddy.

Maddy doesn't look up to Aamir alone. He's been a fan of Amitabh Bachchan till he had an opportunity to work with him in TEEN PATTI. ''Now, I'm a devotee of Big B. I'm amazed by his golfing skills. When we were at the campus for shooting TEEN PATTI, I tempted Mr. Bachchan into playing golf. For someone who's never played before, he was phenomenal on the golf course,'' says Madhavan, adding, ''As a superstar, Big B has the ability to judge, be it in golf, snooker or films. I felt I was in college while shooting with him.'' With successful films like GURU, RANG DE BASANTI and MUMBAI MERI JAAN in his recent line-up, Maddy is excited about his films for 2009 too. He's shed a few kilos to fit into a young student's role. ''Having to lose or gain weight for a particular character is necessary. In TEEN PATTI, I play a professor. So I had to stay fit. In my Tamil film, GURU AN AALU, I had to look thin. Now, as a student, I needed to shed all my flab and manly attributes; it was really tough. I felt miserable as I had to lose inches,'' he shares.
As for his southern films, his next release GURU EN AALU, is a remake of YES BOSS, and will see Madhavan playing Shah Rukh Khan's role and sharing screen space with Abbas and Mamta Mohandass. ''Shah Rukh Khan's energy level was superb in the original and his chemistry with Juhi and Aditya was nice. I share similar chemistry with Abbas and Mamta,'' says Madhavan.
