Coming to what may well turn out to be the first universal hit of 2009, Yash Raj's Kabir Khan directed NEW YORK; the film arrived just like the monsoon did (in Bombay and around!) to a good response. Released at 97 cinemas of Bombay-Thane (thru Yash Raj Film Distributors) the film embarked on an excellent start at the multiplexes, across India. In fact, the collections improved as the day progressed and NEW YORK netted an impressive 17-18 crore during the weekend. Trade feels that NEW YORK has definite merits for the class audience and on the strength of its impressive business in multiplexes and cities; the first week's shares will be excellent. Even in the Overseas the John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh starrer has done very well grossing $467,694 in the US and £157,524 from UK.
The film that released with NEW YORK, J71 Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.'s RUNWAY- LOVE AMONG GUN SHOTS had a weak to poor opening in India and there is no hope that it will see a turnaround in its fortunes.
