When Saif Ali Khan decided to turn producer with Imtiaz Ali's LOVE AAJ KAL, which has the love story of a Sikh couple as one of its highlight sub-plot, he treaded along very cautiously in the beginning. Knowing how very sensitive Sikhs are about their religious sentiments and beliefs, he was extra careful not to hurt them in any way. Saif was aware of the fate of Sunny Deol's JO BOLE SO NIHAAL, which was pulled out of the theatres just after a day or two of its run (as it was found hurting their sentiments), and also the extra efforts that Akshay Kumar and Vipul Shah had to put in order to make SINGH IS KINNG release without a hitch. So, how did he manage it?
CHECK OUT: Saif is the new PAPPU
Well, the intelligent producer invited members of the Shiromani Akali Dal to check out the contents of the film and provide their suggestions and inputs. He also made sure that they approved his Sikh look, before he went public with it. And needless to add that they really appreciated it and found it appropriate. Apart from that, all the characters who were essaying Sikh roles were asked not to smoke or drink when they were wearing turban and made sure that everyone strictly complied with his instructions.
Must say that's why its better to be Saif, than sorry!
