AMU confers D. Lit on A. R. Rahman

| The deferred 59th Annual Convocation (as we had told you last month) of the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University, that was scheduled to be held in March, finally took place on 7th June 2009. Despite the excruciating summer heat, the sprawling campus of the varsity came alive with perceptible excitement due to the arrival of the Oscar winner, A.R. Rahman.
As per our campus sources, the music maestro arrived on the majestic horse drawn buggy, accompanied by the vice chancellor, P.K. Abdul Azis, to the venue of the convocation, the University Athletics Ground, decked up for the occasion. Rahman wore the traditional gown and was greeted with tumultuous applause as he received his honorary D. Lit. (Honoris Causa) Doctorate.
On his part, the maestro, nicknamed the Beethovan of The East, expressed his happiness and gratitude at the honour bestowed upon him and his first time visit to the historic university.
