Robby Grewal: I love slapstick but ALOO CHAAT isn't slapstick

ALOO CHAAT releases today and preview/press shows have indicated that this Robby Grewal film is one family entertainer out to keep a smile on audience's face throughout its duration. With no hint of slapstick in the film, this comedy comes with a difference.
''I had always maintained that ALOO CHAAT wasn't slapstick. Not that I dislike slapstick cinema; in fact I love them all. I have been a fan of most Govinda movies and have laughed my guts out. But the subject of ALOO CHAAT was such that it had to be funny through its situations and the characters, not the slapstick elements'', says Robby who has now explored comedy genre after directing a thriller (SAMAY) and a teenage romance (MP3 - MERA PEHLA PEHLA PYAAR).

''I didn't work in this direction that chalo, let me make a 'different' movie or a so called 'safe' movie. It's just that all the three movies have turned out to be different'', he explains, ''This is a story which I wanted to share with the audience and treated it is a comedy which the whole family could watch.''
So he is looking at a 6 to 60 age group audience, right?
''Exactly'', comments Robby, ''ALOO CHAAT isn't one of your youth-centric films. The gamut is far wider here. Also, as you will find in the movie, no one is trying hard to be funny here. You end up laughing because of the situations that characters find themselves in. The classic example would be a film like ANGOOR. No one made faces or fell on a banana peel, but still audience laughed along right?''
