For Aamna Shariff, it was a lot of fun to be a part of 'gidda' sequence in ALOO CHAAT. Even though she is a Muslim girl, has lived most of her life in Mumbai and doesn't follow Punjabi, the film's narrative required her to act and dance while making herself comfortable in the Punjabi milieu.

''I have never spoken Punjabi in my life, though for some reasons Robby thought that I would know the language'', recollects Aamna, ''I was never even informed about the Punjabi 'gidda' sequence in the film. I think it came in later. When the song was played before me, I asked Robby if it was Punjabi. The moment he said yes, I knew there was some good work ahead since I would have to prepare myself completely for the performance.''

Needless to say, she must have had fun dancing to the number?

CHECK OUT: Robby wanted me and Aftab to be together

''I thoroughly enjoyed myself and today feel proud that in a way I have ended up endorsing Punjabi language. I am a kind of actor who wants to put in 100% into whatever I do so I didn't take any chances with the 'gidda'. Once I reached the sets after my rehearsals, I was very comfortable with the dance steps.''

How was it wearing conventional Punjabi costumes?

''Indian wear comes naturally to me and being a Muslim, I do wear salwar-kameez and lehenga in any case'', says Aamna, ''Ultimately, it depends upon how you carry off Indian attire. I think it makes for an elegant sight since Indian women look best in Indian costumes'', she signs off.
