During the good old days of Hindi cinema, directors always preferred to work with the same set of music directors over a period of time and in different movies. A few that come to mind are Raj Kapoor and Shankar-Jaikishan, Nasir Hussain and R.D Burman, Subhash Ghai and Laxmikant Pyarelal (later A.R. Rahaman). But in recent times this trend has taken a beating with directors opting for different music directors, as per their requirement and choice.

However, super talented director Nagesh Kukunoor, believes in following the old path. Right from the inspirational IQBAL, to his heartwarming DOR, the rib tickler, BOMBAY TO BANGKOK and his upcoming films like AASHAYEIN and the suspense thriller, 8 X 10 TASVEER, there is one common factor that binds all these completely diverse movies. And that is the music by the new face of the music industry, the talented duo, Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant. Nagesh needs to be applauded for spotting their talent so early on and sticking to them and the sole reason as per Nagesh himself, ''I wanted songs that stood out from the clutter and something that was different from the usual that is being heard today.''

Well, in FASHION and the All Time Blockbuster RAB NE BANA DI JODI, Salim-Sulaiman have certainly composed songs that are away from the usual clutter that is being dished out in name of music and have cemented their position in the top league. And with their next, TASVEER 8x10 for Nagesh already creating waves (through the promos) it seems certain that Salim-Sulaiman and Nagesh Kukunoor's jodi will remain together and entertain us for a long time to come!
