| He announced his presence to the Hindi film industry with a sweet little film, SOCHA NA THA, starring a relatively new face in the form of the girl next door Ayesha Takia
and Abhay Deol, a debutant, whose only credential was that he was the cousin brother of superstars Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. The film did not receive the patronage that it deserved, though it was quite well appreciated by the critics as well as the niche audience. And then JAB WE MET came along, and the rest as they say is history.

However, despite the all round acclaim as well as the fact that his last film, JAB WE MET, was a super duper hit, the director Imtiaz Ali is very much grounded. The filmmaker from the steel city of Jamshedpur laughs when told that after JAB WE MET, he is in hot demand in Bollywood by all producers and actors, and they are all keen to work with him. Says Imtiaz in his characteristic humorous style, ''I don't think so. I do not see anyone running after me! Yes, after SOCHA NA THA and before JAB WE MET a few people did express their desire to work with me.''
Well, the film industry is really unpredictable. And even those who thought that Saif had signed Imtiaz's LOVE AAJ KAL after the stupendous success of JAB WE MET are wrong. But more about that later!
