99 and KAL KISSNE DEKHA
It is an unfortunate moment indeed for Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Vaishali Desai since their much hyped film KAL KISSNE DEKHA has been postponed again. Earlier slated to arrive on 29th May, the musical thriller has now been pushed by at least 2-3 weeks and there isn't much certainty around the final release plans for the film.
Though its bad news for Bollywood buffs, for the producers of 99 it could well spell a 'balle balle' moment since exit of KAL KISSNE DEKHA means an open field ahead for their Kunal Khemu and Boman Irani starrer. The film could have faced some challenge from KAL KISSNE DEKHA had it arrived as per it's earlier plans but now since there is not a single movie slated for release for an indefinite time period, audiences have no choice but to watch 99.
Of course at the end of the day only a good movie can survive at theaters and rake in moolah regardless of the lack of choices for audiences. Even 8X10 TASVEER has been on screens for seven weeks now and is the sole new movie at theaters but the world is aware about its box office status. However, 99 carries an advantage of good word of mouth amongst the audience that has only helped it grow from strength with each passing day.
After opening on a low note on it's opening Friday, it has seen a jump in collections over the week, something that has resulted in a respectable 7 crores + gross in it's opening week. The second weekend has begun on a heartening note as well and with IPL finally reaching its conclusion, it should be back to movies for 'aam junta'.
Now all that is required is good promotion from the makers of 99 which could well make it one of the only successes that Bollywood has seen in 2009 so far.
