The only time that director Madhur Bhandarkar lost the battle at the ticket window in the recent past was with TRAFFIC SIGNAL; otherwise it has been quite a smooth sailing for his films.

If names like SATTA and AAN-MEN AT WORK come to mind, the commercial failure was more than compensated by the critical acclaim, and in case of AAN, Madhur had more or less disassociated himself from the project which was handled by its producer Firoz Nadiadwala.

CHECK OUT: Madhur Bhandarkar-I left JAIL with a heavy heart

Even last year it appeared that Ajay Devgan's GOLMAAL RETURNS would swamp Bhandarkar's FASHION (both released simultaneously during Diwali), but the latter managed to get a successful tag in the long run and also won lead actress, Priyanka hordes of awards.

However, this year the battle seems quite tough for him. Though his upcoming JAIL has been granted a U/A certificate, some key scenes of the film have been cut by the censor board. But the toughest battle for Bhandarkar is in the form of Rajkumar Santoshi's Ranbir-Katrina starrer, AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI, which is carrying quite a hype. Very popular music by Pritam and interesting promos have succeeded in arousing the curiosity of the public and it's almost certain that the Tips venture will win the opening battle against Bhandarkar's JAIL. But, knowing his track record we are sure that JAIL might prove to be dark horse, just like his last venture, FASHION.

Here's wishing both JAIL and AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI the best!
