Santoshi's PREM KAHANI demolishes Madhur's JAIL!

The writing was on the wall for about a month and we had been highlighting the fact time and again about how Santoshi's AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI would embark on a good start and prove more than a handful for the Bhandarkar directed JAIL. Unfortunately the people who were associated with JAIL failed to read the signals and did not up the ante in a proper manner, and continued with their uni-directional promotion of the Neil and Mugdha starrer. The emphasis was to focus on the 'necessary' bold Neil scene, while at the same time trying to underplay the allegation that it was deliberate and for publicity.

On the other hand Tips head honcho, Ramesh Taurani, spared no efforts to highlight the fact that his youthful AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI was a madcap though innocent rom com that had no pretentions about exposing something dark about the society. In a nut shell the audience knew that APKGK was a full on entertainment time pass flick, aimed mainly at the college gang. And did he succeed?

The first stats available with us indicate that AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI embarked on a historic and extra ordinary start (at places on par with LOVE AAJ KAL!), and continued its merry run during the weekend. In the process it bulldozed JAIL into submission across India (barring to an extent Bombay). The first day saw the Ranbir-Katrina starrer netting around 6.50 crores from across India while JAIL had a poor 1.25 crore to show and that too mainly from Bombay city and suburbs. Even the usual good reviews associated with Bhandarkar movies failed to impress and the picture remained the same during the first three days.

Still, all is not lost and we still hope for a turnaround of sorts for JAIL.
