| As his latest film, DE DANA DAN is releasing all over, there is palpable excitement amongst the audience for Priyan's Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty, Paresh Rawal and Katrina Kaif starrer. The director of side splitting movies like HERA PHERI, GARAM MASALA, BHOOL BHULAIYAA, HUNGAAMA, MALAMAAL WEEKLY etc. has come a long way and the Hindi film audience has come to accept the funny, humorous side of Priyan, making him undoubtedly the real comedy king.
But what one tends to forgets is that it's the same Priyadarshan who started his career in Bollywood with serious films like GARDISH, VIRAASAT and has directed award winning films like SAZAA E KALA PANI, not to forget KYON KI and BILLU, both of which got critical acclaim.

Priyan continues his quest for meaningful cinema even today, and his KANCHIVARAM is the latest example of his versatility and creativity which has won him the prestigious National Award.
However, it was with HERA PHERI that Priyan became a household name, and as more and more successful films in that genre followed, Bollywood, which is famous for its 'bhed chaal', started aping him blindly and pretty successfully too!
Without resorting to name calling (the audience is smart enough to guess!), a lot of filmmakers have given up their original style, and like Priyan are using a whole lot of characters and confusions, arising out of their foolhardy, thus using situational comedy as a tool for generating laughter, followed by a totally free-for-all climax .
Not that we or the audience mind but our headlines say it all - In the world of wannabes, there is only one Priyan, and it shows in his impeccable record at the ticket window.
