Bollywood box-office report of the week

Once again this week will see multiple releases on the coming Friday - Shreyas Talpade's AAGEY SE RIGHT, the Sunny Deol, Arjun Rampal, Udita Goswami and Sagarika Ghatge starrer FOX, Rishi Kapoor's CHINTUJI, Arbaaz-Jimmy's BACHELOR PARTY. A day earlier, that is on Thursday, Ashish Chowdhry's THREE will hit the screens at some cinemas. It is but obvious that like last Friday, multiple releases are going to damage one another (additionally due to the ongoing Ramzan month), though from the list FOX along with AAGEY SE RIGHT are likely to emerge as the front runners, but THREE with its unusual theme may just surprise.
Last Friday's six releases- Sohail Khan's KISAAN, Sunil Shetty's DADDY COOL, the N. Chandra directed YEH MERA INDIA, the Ashmit Patel starrer TOSS, Shashank Ghosh's QUICK GUN MURUGAN and Randeep Hooda's Srinivas Bhashyam directed LOVE KHICHDI- all damaged each other badly, with openings varying from so-so to shockingly poor! However from the bunched releases, the decent response to QUICK GUN MURUGAN (at some multiplexes, with improvement in collections thereafter) is quite a pleasant surprise for the industry. Even KISAAN has managed some decent numbers from single screens of North and tax exemptions may help it, though marginally. The rest of the releases are on course for a disastrous outcome.
As was evident from the opening show of SIKANDAR, the film has been totally rejected everywhere. It managed to collect 8.25 lakhs from Bombay, 2 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 8 lakhs from Delhi city, 2.50 lakhs from Noida, 1.10 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.50 lakhs from Gurgaon and 1.15 lakhs from Faridabad. During its opening week SIKANDAR has netted a poor 55 lakhs from India and is a huge failure.
The other release of the same week, SHADOW, that showed some decent numbers at selective single screens, has also failed to survive. The film collected 7 lakhs from Bombay, 2.75 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Delhi city, 1.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 1.35 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.25 lakhs from Calcutta and 1.15 lakhs from Hyderabad. Netting around 65 lakhs in its opening week from India, SHADOW is an unmitigated debacle.
After a good first week haul, Vishal Bhardwaj's Shahid, Priyanka and Amole starrer, KAMINEY, has dropped rather badly. The fall ranges from 50 to 75 percent. The film collected 2.75 crores from Bombay (collections from 8 cinemas unreceived), 21 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 8 lakhs from Baroda, 3.15 lakhs from Rajkot, 2 lakhs from Jamnagar, 1 lakh from Gandhidham, 47 lakhs from Pune, 1.50 lakhs from Kolhapur, 1.10 lakhs from Solapur, 1 lakh from Sangli, 5 lakhs from Nasik, 6.35 lakhs from Goa, 1.15 lakhs from Hubli, 1.75 lakhs from Belgaum, 1.50 crores from Delhi city, 21.50 lakhs from Noida, 21.15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 8.65 lakhs from Kanpur, 15 lakhs from Lucknow, 4.50 lakhs from Agra, 1.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 4.10 lakhs from Meerut, 1.15 lakhs from Bareilly, 2 lakhs from Aligarh, 2.75 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 27 lakhs from Gurgaon, 9.25 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.55 lakhs from Zirakpur, 13 lakhs from Chandigarh, 2.15 lakhs from Jammu, 42 lakhs from Calcutta, 4 lakhs from Guwahati, 9.25 lakhs from Nagpur, 3 lakhs from Raipur, 5.75 lakhs from Indore, 13 lakhs from Jaipur, 3.50 lakhs from Jodhpur, 1.15 lakhs from Ajmer, 4 lakhs from Kota, 31 lakhs from Hyderabad, 51 lakhs from Bangalore, 3 lakhs from Mangalore and 2.50 lakhs from Madras.
Adding another 9.50 crores, KAMINEY has so far netted around 36.50 crores in two weeks from India. The film has grossed a good $1,204,464 from US but a below par £245,781 from UK. On the whole KAMINEY is nearing an above average status for its worldwide distributor UTV.
Moving on to Rumi Jaffery's Fardeen, Tusshar, Genelia and Prachi starrer, LIFE PARTNER, the film is steady at many places but with lower side collections. During the week LIFE PARTNER collected 80 lakhs from Bombay, 35 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 14.50 lakhs from Surat, 2.05 lakhs from Nadiad, 4 lakhs from Anand, 14 lakhs from Baroda, 2.10 lakhs from Bharuch, 1.75 lakhs from Himmatnagar, 2 lakhs from Mehsana, 1.25 lakhs from Palanpur, 1.65 lakhs from Vapi, 1 lakh from Valsad, 8.50 lakhs from Rajkot, 3.25 lakhs from Jamnagar, 3 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 1.50 lakhs from Porbandar, 2.50 lakhs from Gandhidham, 9 lakhs from Pune, 1.55 lakhs from Kolhapur, 3 lakhs from Nasik, 4 lakhs from Goa, 67 lakhs from Delhi city, 7.65 lakhs from Noida, 12.65 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 6 lakhs from Kanpur, 10 lakhs from Lucknow, 6 lakhs from Agra, 3.15 lakhs from Varanasi, 1.05 lakhs from Allahabad, 5 lakhs from Meerut, 1.20 lakhs from Moradabad, 1.10 lakhs from Aligarh, 3 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 12 lakhs from Gurgaon, 5.65 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.50 lakhs from Zirakpur, 1.30 lakhs from Pathankot, 2.75 lakhs from Jammu, 11 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Guwahati, 4.65 lakhs each from Nagpur and Raipur, 10 lakhs from Indore, 1 lakh from Sehore, 12 lakhs from Jaipur, 2.25 lakhs from Ajmer, 1.50 lakhs from Kota, 5.75 lakhs from Hyderabad and 2.10 lakhs from Bangalore. With another 5.50 crores, LIFE PARTNER has netted a so-so 16.50 crores in two weeks from India and is a below average fare. LIFE PARTNER has been rejected in the US grossing $110,240, but is decent in the UK with a gross of £246,084.
Yet again our last entry of the week is Imtiaz Ali's Rishi Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer, LOVE AAJ KAL, which is on its way out. The film collected 12 lakhs from Bombay, 3.25 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 25 lakhs from Delhi city, 4 lakhs from Noida, 2.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2.25 lakhs from Kanpur, 4.15 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.50 lakhs each from Agra and Gorakhpur, 6 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.15 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.25 lakhs from Jammu, 5.15 lakhs fropm Calcutta, 2 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.05 lakhs from Raipur, 10.50 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.55 lakhs from Hyderabad and 1.50 lakhs from Bangalore.
With an additional crore during its latest outing, LOVE AAJ KAL has netted around 65 crore in two weeks from India. The film has rocked in the Overseas, grossing $2,425,386 from US and £1,033,767 from UK. LOVE AAJ KAL is a hit plus for its worldwide distributor, EROS International.
