Did director Samir Karnik get inspired by MUNNABHAI MBBS and ended up making VAADA RAHA? This is what one ends up wondering after watching this Bobby Deol film which hardly turns out to be a tear jerker that one would have expected. In MUNNABHAI MBBS, Jimmy Sheirgill's character was shown to be terminally ill who is inspired to live life to the fullest by Sanjay Dutt.

There, 'Munnabhai' gets into the hospital ward, helps Jimmy in smiling again, introduces him to the worldly pleasures, makes him befriend the doctors and the ward boys, encourages him to treat hospital as his own playing ground and doesn't miss an opportunity to give him a mouthful if he comes close to loosing all hopes. All of this was just about 15 minutes segment in MUNNABHAI MBBS.

Circa 2009 and we have Samir Karnik making close to 100 minutes film based on the same episode with far lesser results. So what we get to see is a strict doctor, a couple of friendly ward boys, a cute receptionist, an understanding pharmacist, a helping elevator boy, few junior doctors and guess what, Samir Karnik is ready to get into the path laid out by Raj Kumar Hirani. The sad part though is that everything is cliched and predictable that you don't get a single jolt or an emotional high.

Even the principal protagonists hardly reach the kind of emotional depth that VAADA RAHA required, what with Bobby's beloved (Kangna) walking out of his life with a lame (and rather unpardonable) excuse, Mohnish Behl forcing his character to be all cool and the kid Dwij speaking as if he has been a bona fide trainer in an 'Art of Living' course.

Truly, a missed opportunity for Samir Karnik who just doesn't manage to carry on the momentum that he had gained after last year's release HEROES.
