Prakash Jha: One should make engaging, not heavy films

If one looks at Prakash Jha's last two films APAHARAN and GANGAJAL, it is obvious that the film maker is not taking an easy route. Boasting of subjects that are topical, his films have also been hard hitting and don't quite give audience much breathing space or a moment when one can look away from screen. While this has definitely been an advantage for the lovers of gritty and realistic cinema, one wonders if RAAJNEETI too follows a similar route. Are we looking at yet another heavy outing?

"One should make engaging films; not heavy films. In that aspect, RAAJNEETI is engaging and entertaining", says Jha for whom this is his most ambitious venture till date.

A multi starrer with the best of the best in business making an appearance, RAAJNEETI is expected to continue the recent good run at the box office. The industry has seen two back to back successes in the form of HOUSEFULL and BADMAASH COMPANY and is expected to do further well with KITES round the corner.

"I know for sure that RAAJNEETI' has turned out well. After all as a film maker ek andesha zaroor hota hai ki aapne kya banaya hai", says Jha in the confident tone of a man who has seen the industry closely for last 25 years and has carved a niche for himself despite an entirely new generation following him.

He is still cautious though before making any announcements.

"Eventually, the biggest deciding factor is audience", he says, "The best compliment that you can get for your work is when you film turns out to be successful at the box office. There is no use if a film doesn't not bring back money. It's as simple as that."

RAAJNEETI releases all over on 4th June.
