Randhir Kapoor: I decided to call it a day myself

Randhir Kapoor would be seen as a mad eccentric scientist in ACTION REPLAYY. Seen earlier this year in HOUSEFULL, it was seven years after ARMAAN [Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor] that he faced the camera again. In fact even before ARMAAN, he had taken a long sabbatical. His last major release was way back in 1983 when he did PUKAR and though he was seen on and off in films like MOTHER 98 and CENSOR, it took him full 20 years before consenting to do a full fledged role all over again.

"80s was the time period when my kind of films were not being made", rues Randhir Kapoor, "I was getting a few offers but then there was no point playing a second or a third lead. I had played my own one day internationals and test matches and enjoyed hitting quite a few sixes. I decided to call it a day myself."

This is when he started looking after his family's production house, RK Films, and went on to produce RAM TERI GANGA MAILI for his younger brother Rajeev Kapoor.

"Yes, I actively got involved into production and overseeing activities. There were so many things to look after. I too wasn't missing acting because it wasn't a matter of earning bread for the family. We were all well placed and I got out at the time when I was successful. Now I am looking at having fun in some meaningful roles all over", he says.

Well, one looks forward to that. Post ACTION REPLAYY, Randhir Kapoor would next be seen in Rahul Dholakia directed SOCIETY which also stars other veteran actors like Om Puri, Paresh Rawal, Dimple Kapadia and Sarika.
