Bollywood gets rid of its backlog

Time and again, audience complains of inconsequential films arriving in theaters week after week. However, if one brings in a different perspective, sometimes it is good for movies to arrive without any buzz and disappear without making any noise. With the fate of such films being sealed well before their final cut is ready, it is futile to promote them, given them a proper release and spend money in the promotional activities.

Look at some of the releases in the recent times. The makers of MAALIK EK and DAAYEN YA BAAYEN did at least one thing right by releasing them in the pre-Diwali week when it was known by one and all that no one would even bother to check out what they were about. With no promotional drive or media hype surrounding these films, it was crystal clear that both the films would have disaster written all over them. Add to that the fact that there wasn't anything to cheer about these films even from the making perspective and there wasn't any heartburn at all for most involved.

The industry quietly allowed these films to pass by and the arrival followed by a departure didn't bother the box office pundits at all as these films failed to complete even a single weekend at most theaters. Same was the case with NAKSHATRA as well which at least had some promotional drive to it and was also released like a medium budget film with 4-5 shows a day. However, with 4-5 people stepping into theaters in so many shows, the film only had a lot to be added to its pile of woes.

No wonder, these bona fide disasters proved to be 'come today, gone the next moment' ventures, something that insiders won't quite complain as they only helped Bollywood get rid of its backlog.
