No entry for outside directors in Sanjay's club

In the past, film maker Sanjay Gupta had given opportunities to outside directors like Apoorva Lakhia (SHOOT OUT AT LOKHANDWALA), Hansal Mehta (WOODSTOCK VILLA), Suparn Mehta (ACID FACTORY), Sudipto Chattopadhyaya (PANKH) and Sarthak Dasgupta (THE GREAT INDIAN BUTTERFLY). Well, this may just be restricted to the past as Sanjay has no plans to make it a norm for the future.

"All future films under my banner would be mainly directed by me. I myself have to learn as a director. I don't want to play God or Godfather anymore", says Sanjay whose last film as a director was ZINDA which had released close to five years back, "If there is something exceptional that another director brings to me, I may back it but then I am in no mood, enthusiasm or position to teach people now. It is time to learn."

This exception that Sanjay is talking about would be evidenced in MITLE HAIN, which would have Meghna Gulzar (who had directed one of the stories in DUS KAHANIYAAN) as the one holding the baton. Starring Vidya Balan in lead with talks of John Abraham or Abhishek Bachchan stepping in as a lead hero, MILTE HAIN is a commitment that Sanjay had made to Meghna some time back.

"It is a brilliant script and I want Meghna to make it. The cast is not final though. However, we are looking at bringing the film on floors early this year. Other than MILTE HAI, there is no film by outside director which is being made under my banner. I have to begin my own film now", says Sanjay.

"I am sure though that whatever next comes out of my production house, it has to be kick ass cutting edge cinema with great music and attitude", he adds on a parting note, "It is high time that I played on my team's core strength."
