Akshay Kumar: I'm not desperate for a hit

Akshay Kumar had high hopes from Vipul Shah's Diwali release, ACTION REPLAYY. Also starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the film had all the chances of being a hit. But the film didn't click with the audience.

"ACTION REPLAYY didn't work I have tried to find out why. Maybe it was because of the look or the screenplay. These are the two things that I can think of. I thought about it for two days and it did make me sad. But then you come out of it and try again," said Akshay.

So after the failure of ACTION REPLAYY is Akshay desperate for a big hit? "My career graph has always been of ups and downs so it doesn't matter. I'm not desperate for a hit. But I crave for a big hit all the time. I release about four films a year and reach very hard for each film."

It's been a while since we have seen Akshay doing a very different role like SANGHARSH. He's mainly seen only in comedy films. He reasons out, "I have tried to do my level best. And I will keep on doing it till I get a good script. There are certain types of people who don't want to see serious films. They also need masala. Even your news is filled with masala so that people can read it. Nobody is interested in straight hard-hitting films. I have to understand the business part. I would love to do serious roles, but unfortunately they don't work."

So doesn't it disturb him that he is not able to portray certain characters? "It does disturb me. But I have to move on. I have to understand the business part. Out of twelve people if ten people like a certain kind of film, I will cater to them rather than the two who don't like it. I don't want to make films where only I have to satisfy myself. I have to satisfy others," states Akshay.

Now the 43-year-old actor has his eyes set on his upcoming Christmas release, TEES MAAR KHAN. "It's a character that I have not done in the past. He's trying to fool everyone and just wants to make it big. But he is not a negative character. I didn't have to work on the character at all."

Akshay Kumar started the year with a bang with Sajid Khan's HOUSEFULL. Let's hope he ends it on a high with Farah Khan's TEES MAAR KHAN. After all, all's well that ends well.
