Kiran Rao: Aamir was never meant to be in DHOBI GHAT

Though DHOBI GHAT is tagged as Aamir Khan's film but it's entirely wife Kiran Rao's brainchild right from planning to execution. Even while unveiling the first look of her directorial debut DHOBI GHAT, it was Kiran Rao who took the lead and Aamir preferred to stay away from the event.

Says the first time director Kiran Rao, 'Actually this was our (Aamir & my) joint decision to present it that way. World have always known me as Mrs. Aamir Khan than Kiran Rao. So, I felt now is the time to have my own identity. It was Aamir's idea and he truly supported me. I wanted to bump into as filmmaker, as a director, as a writer. I wanted to introduce my film myself and want to be known as an independent filmamker.'

It's every filmmaker's dream to work with the perfectionist -Aamir Khan. One is eager to how was Kiran's experience directing Aamir. 'It was very exciting. We fought and had fun also while working. He's a dream producer to work with so I had a great time.'

Further on, Kiran also revealed that Aamir was never meant to be in DHOBI GHAT and he even auditioned for the film. 'Yes, in the beginning Aamir was not meant to be in this film. Because it's a very short film and I wanted to work with small crew & unknown faces. We were not getting the right actor for the character. Aamir said try me, I can give an audition. After the audition, I could look no further and had no other choice and went ahead locking Aamir for this role.'

Apart from Aamir Khan, DHOBI GHAT also has Prateik Babbar along with two female leads – Monica Dogra & Kriti Malhotra, who make their debut with this film. DHOBI GHAT is all set to release on 21st January 2011.
