Faruk Kabir: Naseer saab was my quickest choice

For a film which is directed by a newcomer director with no Bollywood bearings, one would have expected the younger cast to be finalised first while the veterans followed later. However, in case ALLAH KE BANDAY, it was just the reverse for first director-actor Faruk Kabir who managed to rope in Naseeruddin Shah in a key role without much ado.

"I know it would be hard to believe for many out there but Naseer saab was the earliest and the quickest choice for ALLAH KE BANDAY," informs Faruk whose much cherished dream is out there in open for audience to see, "When he read the script, he instantly said yes to it. He really liked it. Moreover, he was interested not just in the role that he was going to play but also about other characters. He is someone who looks at the film as a whole than just staying on his silo."

This means that Faruk actually had to follow this up with a detailed narration where he spoke not just about Naseeruddin Shah's role but also that of Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni and his own self.

"He wanted a complete picture in order to understand the entire film," says Faruk, "In fact once convinced about the film as a whole, he didn't even discuss more about his own character. On the contrary he wrapped it up by asking me - 'What's your age?'."

"I want to flatter myself by thinking that he was really impressed with what he saw in a young film maker like me," laughs Faruk before signing off.
