Aarti: I had to unlearn a few things

Aarti Chabria is happy. In her latest release DUS TOLA, she is not just playing the lead female protagonist but also getting an opportunity to rub shoulders with Manoj Bajpai who is on a career high after RAAJNEETI. What also makes this film special is the fact that it has been purposefully kept away from the trappings of typical Bollywood commercial potboilers and instead has a simple feel around it due to its small town setting.

Since the film doesn't come with a specific setting, Aarti didn't have to worry much about gaining any particular accent. "People do ask me whether I had to bring on any Maharashtrian, UP or Bhojpuri accent to compliment the small town look and feel of DUS TOLA. However, the fact is that what I speak in the film is plain Hindi", says Aarti.

In DUS TOLA, Aarti plays the role of Suvarnalata a.k.a. Sona, a fiery girl with the face of an angel. Daughter of an astrologer (Dilip Prabhawalkar), Sona is in live with a goldsmith Shankar (Manoj Bajpai). However, since her father isn't supportive of her alliance with Shankar, Sona cooks up a foolproof plan. It involves Shankar to make a 'mangalsutra' worth ten tolas of gold so that he can prove himself as a suitable match in front of her father.

Though Aarti reaffirms that she didn't have to pick up something out and out different for the film, she does admit that she had to keep her urban sensibilities aside.

"When you live in a big city all your life, you adopt an altogether different body language and dialogue delivery", she smiles, "My director was sure that I didn't have to carry any of those on the sets. I had to unlearn a few things before I totally understood the small town sensibilities."
