ANJAANA ANJAANI: A love story in the time of drama

Off late, any movie about a young couple is seeing two kind of classifications coming its way. It either finds itself being promoted as a romcom or is billed as a dramatic outing. However, director Siddharth Anand wants to keep it simple for his fourth outing ANJAANA ANJAANI. As per him, neither is the film a romcom nor a drama. It is a musical love story and this is how he wants the expectation to be built amongst the audience.

"The idea from the very beginning was to make a love story," says Siddharth who is counting days before the 24th September release of the film, "For every love story to work, there has to be a little bit of drama at least. This way, even ANJAANA ANJAANI has some drama to it. However, it doesn't overpower the romantic element of the film. On the other hand in a quintessential romcom, any drama that comes in seems to be forced. As an audience, you end up exclaiming - 'arrey yaar, ab yeh kyon aa gaya. I have consciously avoided that. Whatever little drama that comes in ANJAANA ANJAANI, it is all balanced out."

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala too always wanted his repertoire of films to boast of a love story. After all in a career spanning a couple of decades, he had seen success coming his way via films belonging to comic, action and drama genre. However, he hadn't attempted a love story before.

"This is the reason why when Siddharth said that he wanted to make a love story with me, I was game for it. I loved the script and knew that it would have immense scope for music," says Sajid who is ecstatic with the chart topping response that compositions by Vishal-Shekhar are enjoying at the stands.

"A musical love story is a rarity in today's time and I liked the passion that Siddharth carried to do something which had seemingly gone extinct for a long time. I was convinced that for audience which has loved number of drama and action movies off late, ANJAANA ANJAANI would be a renewed experience for them all over again," promises Sajid before signing off.
