Madhavan opts out of HAPPY NEW YEAR

Not many are aware that before TANU WEDS MANU became a reality, it's lead pair of R.Madhavan and Kangna Ranaut were supposed to work together in a film which was rumoredly called HAPPY NEW YEAR. To be directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru (who had earlier made Salman Khan's LUCKY - NO TIME FOR LOVE), the romantic musical was announced way back in 2008. However as things stand, Madhavan is not doing the film anymore.

'The film was revived late last year and the first schedule was kick-started in December,' informs a source, 'However many were surprised to find out that the film no more featured Madhavan. Only Kangna and Sunny Deol, who was always spearheading the cast, reported for the shoot. Apparently the film's title too has changed to I LOVE NEW YEAR.'

No one really knows what really transpired but there was not much noise made around Madhavan dropping out of the film. Also, since TANU WEDS MANU was being completed around that time and the promotion had already begun; it made sense for all involved to stay mum.

'Now that TANU WEDS MANU is a big hit, there is revived interest amongst audience as well as trade to see Madhavan and Kangna together,' continues the source, 'Many believed that HAPPY NEW YEAR would be the one that would bring the two again on screen.'

On contacted, Madhavan expressed ignorance around what's happening on the film today. He said, 'I have no clue who is doing what on the film. I actually opted out of this more than a year ago so it is surprising that some still feel I am a part of it. No, I am not.'

Now that's sad news indeed since Maddy's dropping out means that it would be a while before TANU AND MANU meet again.
