Ram Gopal Varma: There is nothing derogatory about publicity

Someone who has forever been quite vocal about his choice of subjects, success as well as failure in equal measures, one wonders whether Ram Gopal Varma has ever thought of refraining from making any bold statements for a change and stay a little aloof from noise making so that his film could do all the talking.

"No, I haven't and really, I don't think I even want to do that ever. As I said, I don't see any logic in making a decision like this. Why would I do that? Now if my films are sensational then there is a reason behind that. From my first film onwards, majority of stories told by me have been straight out of headlines. Eventually what interests me is something which is topical. The entire Maria and Neeraj episode was one such incident that interested me and I went ahead and made a film out of it. Now it's my job to talk about it as well," reasons Ramu as he gears up to bring to screen his NOT A LOVE STORY.

However in the process of doing that, Ramu has also ruffled a few feathers in the bargain. In fact he has also been quite vocal in admitting that everything that he does or talks about in public forums, it is for publicity. Since not many would have been willing to make a statement like this, isn't Ramu actually floating against the tide?

"Yes I am but I guess the point is that other people also talk for publicity but shy away from admitting it. I don't know why but they look down upon the word 'publicity',"

Ramu wonders, "I don't see anything derogatory in the word 'publicity' though. After this is a word which has been around for centuries now. If you have to draw attention to a cause, you have to be selfish. After all doesn't everyone out there want his film to be seen by enough number of people?"

Well, one hopes the strategy really works for NOT A LOVE STORY that stars Mahie Gill, Deepak Dobriyal and Ajay Gehi as the lead protagonists and releases all over on 19th August.
