When Big B confronted his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan

A very youthful and energetic Big B was answering the questions from the media in his inimitable jovial style during the media launch of the latest edition of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), the game show of 'aam aadami'. While he narrated a story of how one of the participants in the last show defied and confronted his entire village and elders to participate in the show, a senior journalist asked him if he had ever defied or confronted his elders. Big B came up with a startling and amusing revelation about his young days.

It was the time when becoming a graduate used to be the first priority of the middle class youth unlike modern times that offer various other exciting options. Amitabh Bachchan also completed his graduation and was going through a period of jobless frustration and serious self-questioning and self-doubt. In an addebaazi session one of his friends came up with the idea that their problems arose from the fact that they were brought into this world full of suffering by their parents who did not even took their consent before doing so.

The apparently logical argument struck a strong chord with young Amitabh Bachchan and one day he mustered enough courage during a discussion with his father to pose the question to him in a very simple dialogue like 'Aap ne mujhe janm dene se pehle mujh se poocha tha?'

Since the great poet had his own poetic methods of communication, he did not respond to the question immediately and later wrote a poem on a piece of paper and left it on young Amitabh's bed. The poem was about how a young man frustrated with the problems of life asks his father the question if his consent was taken before his birth. The father answers that neither his father took his consent, nor his grand father took his father's consent before their birth. And now he will wait and see how he (the son) takes his son's consent before his birth.

The story and the poem sent everyone roaring with laughter. It was an enjoyable conclusion of the KBC 2011 media presentation that was full of entertaining moments and interactions with a free-flowing Big B at his ebullient best.
