After agreeing to edit portions of his controversial film AARAKSHAN, filmmaker Prakash Jha on Friday moved the Supreme Court for withdrawal of a ban on the movie in three Indian states.

Northern states Uttar Pradesh and Punjab and Andhra Pradesh in south banned filmmaker Prakash Jha's film on educational reservations, AARAKSHAN, even as he agreed to edit portions to quell the protests against the film dealing with a politically volatile issue.

Besides Jha, another producer Firoz A Nadiadwala moved the apex court on the day of the film's nationwide release.

Justice Altamas Kabir would hear the matter at 2 p.m., reports said. Jha came to the court with a battery of lawyers on Friday.

Jha in his writ petition argued that the ban in the states goes against 'the spirit of freedom of expression guaranteed by the Constitution'.

Jha's celluloid take on the volatile academic reservations issue met with objections across India even as the filmmaker claimed he treated the subject with all fairness.

"We have agreed to make minor changes following objections. There are certain dialogues and scenes that have been edited," Jha told a press conference in Mumbai on Thursday.

Jha, however, hinted his dissatisfaction at political parties making an 'issue' of his film.
