Swanand Kirkire collaborates with Sanjay Surkar for STANDBY

What happens when two of the biggest talents collaborate? Obviously fireworks!

The 4 times National Award winner director Sanjay Surkar, who makes his Bollywood debut with STANDBY, joins hands with Natioanl Award winner lyricist Swanand Kirkire.

Swanand Kirkire hardly needs any introduction. Who can forget the popular tracks Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh, Give Me Some Sunshine, Khoya Khoya Chand, Bande Mein Tha Dum, Bavra Maan, Piya Boleand countless other hits for which Swanand penned the lyrics and also won numerous prestigious awards.

Quite surprisingly the duo didn't know each other before. It was only for the film STANDBY when the two came in contact. Director Sanjay Surkar approached Swanand for his film through Sanjay Jadhav (renowned cinematographer). When Swanand came to know about it he was game for it. Since Swanand has done various love ballads and melodious numbers this was definitely a challenging project for him as the subject of the film is based on the game of Football.

One of the songs which Swanand has written for STANDBY - 'Lad Bapu' is becoming quite popular. It was a crucial song for Swanand as it features in the promos and is the theme song of the film. Says Swanand, "Lad Bapu is an expression in Marathi that cheers people on. It's about a Maharashtra team in a football match."

Sanjay Surkar's STANDBY is a story about 'Football', a game which is celebrated world over as the most beautiful game that has a dismal story to tell in our country (India). It deals with the game and then the dirty politics played within the game. The film features ensemble cast like Dalip Tahil, Manish Chaudhary, Avtar Gill, Sachin Khedekar, Siddharth Kher and newcomer Adinath Kothare. The music is composed by Adesh Shrivastava and lyrics penned by Swanand Kirkire.

The film is all set to hit the screens on 26th August 2011.
