Manoj Bajpai thinks highly of Arjan Bajwa & Maqbool Khan

LANKA is up for release and is said to be a modern day adaptation of 'Ramayana' withManoj Bajpai and Arjan Bajwa portraying Raavan and Vibhishan respectively. Since the film is centred on the two brothers, it was but obvious that the basic requirement of the film was to have two actors come up with a spirited and convincing act so that their conflict comes alive on screen.

''Definitely, and this is where Arjan deserves full marks because from the very Day One, he too knew that LANKA wasn't just another film that he was doing. He became really aware about the fact that this was going to be one film which would make him proud a few years down the line. I could see that he brought to fore just the right kind of discipline, zeal and desperation to make a place for himself as an actor. He has done really well,'' Manoj says in appreciation of his co-star.

While it is understandable that he discovered Arjan and his acting prowess after working with him, one wonders what made him trust an absolute newcomer in the form of director Maqbool Khan. After all, he has made only one film before (KABOOTAR) and that is yet to be released. In that case, wasn't it a huge gamble for Manoj to work with someone who was almost starting afresh?

''Let me tell you one thing very honestly,' Manoj gets animated here, 'The fact is that when you interact with him, this guy doesn't even come across as an intellectual or an intelligent guy. However it is also true that he is much more intellectual and intelligent than others who try to sound like one. Maqbool's emotional intelligence is as good as any other director out there. Talking to him seems like you are going through 200 books at the same time. The way he has observed life is phenomenal. Honestly, I have seen such intelligence only in Shekhar Kapoor and Mahesh Bhatt.''

Well, with comparisons like these, expectations are bound to scale further heights en route to film's release on 9th December.
