We were all expecting it. It is a major Indo-German co-production with substantial funding received from various German agencies. The film was also shot in Berlin. Though Farhan Akhtar's DON 2 is releasing next week in India and elsewhere, it will have its German premiere during the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) as a Berlinale Special. The festival runs through 9-19th February 2012.
Along with this the festival authorities have unveiled the first five Competition films, out of about 14 that will finally make it to the section, and have thus started the process of announcing its line up in various sections in right earnest. The list boasts of big names of art house cinema from Indonesia, Spain, the People's Republic of China, Hongkong/China, the Philippines, Great Britain, Germany, the USA and France.
The other films in the Berlinale Special section apart from DON 2 are the documentary MARLEY by Kevin Macdonald from Great Britain and the USA, the Spanish film LA CHISPA DE LA VIDA by Alex de la Iglesia, Guy Maddin's KEYHOLE from Canada, as well as Werner Herzog's documentary series DEATH ROW from the USA.
