Sudhir Mishra fires film makers

Post the rousing critical acclaim that YEH SAALI ZINDAGI has gained for itself and a continuous rise in audience ever since its release, film maker Sudhir Mishra is on fire. Happy with his conviction in making a film which defied all norms, whether it came to language, setting, star cast or treatment, Sudhir doesn't mince any word even as he talks about the reason behind his film's success.

"There have been many young makers who came around the same time when I started. They were hailed as the next big film maker after having set the screen on fire. Where they are all today? They just came and gone. At least I have been sincere to the medium and nothing else. I have a desire to do well. This is the reason why I have survived since 1987", he says with his heads high.

Prior to YEH SAALI ZINDAGI, Sudhir has earlier seen critical acclaim coming his way with films like HAZAARON KHWAISHEN AISI, CHAMELI, IS RAAT KI SUBAH NAHI and DHARAVI.

"There is no point in making a film when you are not dying to tell a story. The film should be inside you, it should be waiting to come out", says Mishra who has made less than a dozen films in his 25 years career as a director, "I know there are lot of people who make a film just for the sake of it due to various reasons. But sorry, I can't and I won't do that."

He doesn't deny though that he too has made false moves in the past. "Yes, I have made just one mistake in my career so far. But please don't ask me to name it. I am still confessing though that I did go wrong." One wonders if he is referring to CALCUTTA MAIL (2003) (starring Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee, Manisha Koirala) which stays on to be one of his most unknown films till date.
