Goa CM seeks police report on DUM MARO DUM

Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Friday said that he will seek reports from Goa police about Rohan Sippy's DUM MARO DUM movie that apparently shows Goa in a bad taste.

"I have asked the police to watch the movie before it is screened in theaters. I am told that Goa police have already asked the movie director (Sippy) to show them the promotional and publicity materials before its official release. I will follow it up with the police," Kamat told reporters during a press meet.

Goan authorities are apprehensive that the movie, which is based on Goa's dark underbelly, will showcase Goa in bad repute.

The movie, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu and Aditya Pancholi, revolves around drug nexus, sex trade and unpleasantness in the coastal state of Goa.

Fearing a backlash after the movie release, State tourism director Swapnil Naik said that Goa government should look into the matter to ensure that the movie is not an exaggerated portrayal.

"Movie buffs consider movies as true depiction whether it is based on fiction or true stories. Movies based on sensitive issues should be properly scanned and viewed before its release," he said.

"The movie's objectionable parts should be censored. We cannot afford to take any more bad publicity when the State is revivifying after a poor past. We cannot afford to lose our visitors coming from all over the world at the cost of this movie," Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) president Gaurish Dhond said.

TTAG, a body representing hospitality and travel sector in Goa is already facing tough competition from other tourist destinations like Thailand, Malaysia and Sri Lanka and also places from within the country.

The film's official spokesperson from Mumbai said that the movie is based on whatever happened in Goa in the recent past.

"We conducted a thorough study before shooting the movie in Goa. Although the request from Goa police came in late, we are ready to show the film's footage to Goan authorities," she said adding that the movie trailers have been released in the theaters on Friday.
