Vishal wants Shekhar to sing more often

2010 will go down as a year where one heard Vishal Dadlani sing a maximum number of songs for his own team (Vishal-Shekhar) as well as others (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Pritam, Salim-Sulaiman, Gaurav DG etc.). It will also go down as a year when Shekhar sung that melodious 'Bin Tere' [I HATE LUV STORYS] and 'Tumse Hi Tumse' [ANJAANA ANJAANI] amongst other songs. One wonders though why doesn't Shekhar sing more often just like his music partner Vishal. Is it a case of being shy when it is about coming behind the mike?

"It is not a question of being shy", Shekhar says with a smile here, "When we come up with a Vishal and Shekhar composition, we invest a lot of time in deciding that which singer will sound the best. Tomorrow if a better singer can come and elevate the proceedings then why should I step in? A song should work as a whole and ultimately it boils down to destiny. Sometimes when we are unable to find the right voice for the right situation, we just go for it as singers as well. But that is never the main priority."

Vishal is far more vocal though (pun intended), when it comes to insisting that Shekhar should come behind the mike more often.

"I truly feel that if I have to compare myself with Shekhar when it comes to singing, he is much more trained and valid singer than me", says Vishal in genuine admiration of his partner, "The fact of the matter is that I try very hard when I have to sing. On the other hand when he sings, it is effortless. Look at his songs like 'Bin Tere' or years before that, 'Aazmaa Le' [TAXI NO. 9211]. I do tell him all the time that he should sing more often."

With Shankar Mahadevan (of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy), Salim Merchant (of Salim-Suleiman), Wajid (of Sajid-Wajid), Himesh Reshammiya and A.R. Rahman already being regulars in their albums, seems like the only composer who is resisting the temptation of singing is Pritam.
